Thomas P. Hares, 72, of 292 Francis Mine Drive, Gwinn, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, June 1, 2010 at his home in the presence of his family and in the care of Lake Superior Hospice. Mr. Hares was born on December 17, 1937 in Ishpeming, a son of the late William H. and Nora (Mahoney) Hares and was a lifelong Marquette County resident. He was a 1956 graduate of Negaunee High School.
Tom began working as a pipe fitter in 1963 for Local 414 and 506 and was a member ever since. For the last six years he wintered with his daughter in Clinton, Louisiana.
In his free time, Tom enjoyed fishing, hunting, 4-wheeling, woodworking, and going to the casino.
Survivors include three children, Michael (Karen) Hares of Gwinn, Candice (Larry) Varnado of Clinton, LA and Mark Hares of Gwinn; four grandchildren, Michael (Nancy) Hares, Eric Hares, Kevin and Allie Gillespie; four great grandchildren, Sam and Lindsay Phillips, Andrew and Jacob Hares; also his fiancé, Nancy Forsberg of Republic.
Preceding him in death besides his parents was his wife, Bonnie Hares on November 19, 2003 as well as a brother, William J. Hares.
Visitation will be on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Canale Gwinn Funeral Home where a memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. Friday.
