Robert J. "Bob" Desormier, 78, of 911 W. Magnetic St., Marquette, died peacefully Saturday, June 12, 2010 at his home.
Mr. Desormier was born on August 29, 1931 in Marquette, the only child of the late Philip and Ann (Strieleman) Desormier and was a lifelong Marquette resident.
Following graduation from Graveraet High School in 1950, Bob began employment with the L.S. & I. Railroad as a Carman. He worked there for 41 years, retiring in 1992 and was a proud union member. Bob enjoyed every day of his retirement.
Bob proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force for four years serving in France, Germany and the U.S.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, the former Grace K. LaValley whom he married on April 14, 1956 at St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey; one daughter, Linda Desormier at home; brothers-in-law, Wilbur (Grace) LaValley, James Lafkas and Larry Klaus, all of Marquette; sisters-in-law, June (Edward) Chaperon of Ishpeming and Grace Gray of Marquette; also many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home where a parish prayer service will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. Larry VanDamme officiating and Deacon Ryan Ford assisting. A luncheon reception will immediately follow in the Zyrd Parish Center at St. Michael's with the Rite of Committal to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Pallbearers are William LaValley, Gary LaValley, Robert Gray, Thomas Gray, Robert December and Edward Sandberg.
