Grace Mary Dunleavy, 103, of Marquette, died Sunday evening, July 4, 2010, at Norlite Nursing Center.
She was born February 16, 1907, in Marquette, a daughter of the late George L. and Catherine (Graff) O'Neill. She graduated in 1926 from Bishop Baraga High School and was a lifelong area resident.
Grace had been a resident of Snowberry Heights for the past 20 years. She was a former member of St. Michael Catholic Church and its Altar Society and later became a member of St. Peter Cathedral.
Grace will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and her great love for her camp and Lake Superior.
She is survived by her children, Maureen (Raymond) DesJardins and Thomas G. (Carol) Dunleavy, both of Marquette; grandchildren, Stephen (Linda), Christopher, David (Tatyana), James & Michelle DesJardins, Lara (Jerome) Torres and Thomas L. (Amy) Dunleavy; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Adam, Grace Ann, Dimitri and Sophia DesJardins, Thomas & Katelyn Grace Dunleavy, Matea Grace and Leo Torres; cousin, Mary Ellen Belmore; niece, Katie O'Neill Lake; and nephews, Richard & Thomas Alholm. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell F. "Percy" Dunleavy on November 11, 1979; infant son, Terrence Parnell Dunleavy; brother, James Oakes O'Neill; and sister, Helen O'Neill Jackson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 9, 2010 at 12 Noon at St. Peter Cathedral with Rev. Michael Steber and Rev. Laurence Gauthier concelebrating. Visitation will be held in the Bishop's Room of the church for one hour prior to the mass. Inurnment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
The Canale-Tonella Funeral Home is assisting the family.
