Jose Ortiz, 85, of Gwinn, died Tuesday morning, July 27, 2010, at his home and under the care of Lake Superior Hospice.
He was born August 10, 1924, in Puerto Rico, a son of the late Jose and Marcela Ortiz. Jose married the former Marion E. Schiefel on January 19, 1957 in Racine, Wisconsin.
Jose was employed for several years as a laborer in a foundry in Racine, WI. He and his wife moved to Gwinn in 1994. His leisure activities included gardening, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jose is survived by his children, Frank (Kim) Schiefel of Gwinn and Anna Bertram of Springfield, VA; brothers, Luis Riviera of Racine, WI and Miguel Ortiz of Puerto Rico; 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marion in 2004 and a son, Jose Raul Ortiz.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the Canale-Gwinn Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Westman officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Gwinn Cemetery.
