Frank Holowitz, 68, of Chatham, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, July 29, 2010 at Marquette General Hospital.
Mr. Holowitz was born on September 21, 1941 at Royal Oak, Michigan, a son of the late Frank and Nellie Mae (Amburgey) Holowitz. Frank proudly served his country with the United States Air Force from 1957 through 1961 where he worked as a civil engineer.
Frank worked for three years with Chrysler Automotive Stamping Plant in Royal Oak and later with the Singer Sewing Center in Royal Oak. In 1972 he and his wife moved to the Upper Peninsula where he started his own company selling and servicing Singer Sewing Machine products. He retired in 2004.
Frank was a member of Harvey Council #6447 Knights of Columbus as well as Bishop Baraga the Snowshoe Priest Assembly Fourth Degree of Knights of Columbus. He was very involved in the degree teams for the First, Second and Third Degree of the Knights for over 20 years. He was also a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Trenary.
In his free time, Frank enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on cars, going to the Dairy Queen, meeting people and being involved with activities at church. Frank always found it easy to carry on a conversation with anyone.
Survivors include three children, Mary Kay (Patrick) Pleaugh of Sands Township, Frank (Jessie) Holowitz, Jr. of Golden, CO and Kristie Lynn Holowitz of Jacksonville NC; eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren; siblings, Brenda (Richard) Beal of Armada, MI, Gary (Michelle) Holowitz of Richmond, MI and Grace (Dennis) Bault of Washington Township, MI; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Frank also leaves behind his best friend, Skip Tasson. Preceding him in death besides his parents was his wife, Mary Anne Holowitz on December 29, 2007.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 12 noon in St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey with the Rev. Ben Paris celebrating. Burial will take place in the Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the mass.
Members of Bishop Baraga the Snowshoe Priest Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will act as pallbearers and honor guard.
The Canale-Tonella Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
