Elizabeth "Betty" Hockin, 81, of 222 S. Fifth St., Marquette, died peacefully early Friday morning at her home in the loving presence of her family and in the care of Lake Superior Hospice.

She was born September 19, 1928, in Greenland, Michigan. Betty attended and graduated from Gravereat High School in 1947. On May 19, 1948 she married William "Bill" Hockin in Marquette.

Betty owned and operated the B & J Superette with her husband for many years. She lived in Marquette in the summer and spent the winters in her home in Sarasota, Florida. Betty enjoyed bowling, crocheting, craft classes and especially time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Dan (Marsha) Hockin of Marquette, Leanne (Larry) Haglund of Marquette and Clyde Hockin of North Carolina; grandchildren, Shawn Hockin, Shane December, Tammy (Trey) Huddle, Kristy LaMere, Jesse Hockin and Domino Hockin; great-grandchildren, Justin Hockin, McKayla LaMere, Harley Huddle, Stella Huddle, Ruby Hockin and Chloe Hockin; and many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill, who was the love of her life in 1999; brother, George Buzzo; and sister-in-law, Florence Buzzo.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 12 Noon in the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Tooman officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will take place in Park Cemetery.
